Spring Is Coming!

I've enjoyed the winter (especially some of the winter hiking we've done), but I'm ready to see some green again. I am not, however, looking forward to the return of king Pollen. He is a heavy-handed liege, wreaking havoc upon my immune system. I've been taking bee pollen for the last couple of months. I'm hoping that will help but I've remained skeptical, expecting to feel the full brunt of king Pollen's fury.

We've been working on getting a garden started. We're going to be doing raised beds this year, which I'm sure we'll write more about this year. We have six plots that are twelve feet long by four feet wide. We're not sure exactly what we'll be planting, but given past years, I am sure it will involve a lot of tomatoes. We learned a lot last year: plant less squash, plant more corn (and beans). I'm also drawing up plans for a chicken ark so we can have three or four chickens.

With all of this gardening it may be difficult to get away from the house much, but I'm planning on doing as much of that as we can. We bought what we refer to as "The Great Debaucle" last autumn and darn it: we paid for it, we should attempt to use it. If the pollen doesn't kill me, then I plan on doing as much local hiking and camping as we can. There are some longer trips in the planning stages as well.

I'm looking forward to the summer. Gardening, traveling, and of course little bit will converge to make this an interesting year.
